Princess of the Circus (original German title: "Die Zirkusprinzessin") is a three-act operetta composed by Emmerich Kálmán with a libretto by Julius Brammer and Alfred Grünwald, which premiered on March 26, 1926, at Theater an der Wien in Vienna.
The operetta's action revolves around the mysterious character "Mister X," whose true identity is unknown to anyone as he always wears a mask. In reality, he is Prince Fedja Palinski, who was banished and disinherited by his uncle because he fell in love with the uncle's future wife, Princess Fedora, a beautiful and young Parisian. After Fedora Palinska became a widow, she went to Paris, and Prince Fedja Palinski entered the circus world, becoming the mysterious Mister X and the main attraction of the shows.
Following a plot with a happy ending, Mister X and Princess Fedora reunite and stay together. Some of these events take place in the wonderful and colorful circus world.
