"The Bat" (in German, "Die Fledermaus") is an operetta in three acts by Johann Strauss – the son (October 25, 1825 – June 3, 1899), with a libretto by Karl Haffner and Richard Genée after the vaudeville "Le Réveillon" written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. The premiere took place in Vienna, at the "Theater an der Wien", on April 5, 1874.
Doctor Falke, the friend of Mr. Eisenstein, plots a prank to take revenge on him for an old story: after a masquerade ball, Eisenstein left Falke drunk in a public garden, dressed in a bat costume, to the ridicule of the crowd, which is why Falke got the nickname of "The Bat".

The National Theater of Operetta and Musical "Ion Dacian" was founded in 1950 under the name of the State Theater of Operetta. The theater is named after the famous tenor Ion Dacian, whose long career is associated with the Golden Age of Romanian Operetta.
From its inception, the Operetta has enjoyed a favorable reception from the Romanian public, with the genre gaining particular popularity especially in the 1970s – '80s.
In the new millennium, the Theater has undergone a period of renewal and modernization. Changes mainly aimed at increasing the quality of productions artistically and technically, attracting new audience categories (especially the younger audience), and shaping a new image of the Operetta to illustrate both its rich tradition and new future projects intended to transform the Theater into an important cultural center of the Capital.
The current repertoire of the National Theater of Operetta and Musical "Ion Dacian" includes musicals, operettas, concerts, gala events, as well as seasonal shows.
