"Cinderella – The Voice of the Kingdom", the performance that has played to full houses since its premiere, returns in the new season of the Ambassadorial Musical Theatre!
Who hasn't heard of "Cinderella"? Who doesn't know the story of the poor and kind-hearted girl named Cinderella, who is cruelly treated by her stepmother and stepsisters? Despite the unfair treatment, the maiden in the story remains gentle and wise. Through the help of a good fairy and a magical ball, Cinderella gets a chance to fulfill her dream of attending the royal ball, where she meets the prince and falls in love with him. However, at midnight, she flees and loses her glass slipper, which becomes the clue the prince uses to find her. After much searching, he identifies Cinderella and offers her the slipper to try on, ending the story happily with their marriage.
"Cinderella – The Voice of the Kingdom" is a show about finding your voice/calling/vocation and following it, no matter the obstacles that may arise. It is a performance about music, about hard work, about being talented, but also about seizing the opportunity to fulfill your dream. Ella, a shy and withdrawn girl from our times, is a sensitive soul who can only express herself through singing, giving voice to her true personality, and when she is on stage, she shines. The protagonist wishes to participate in the casting for the premiere of "Cinderella" at her high school. The roles of the wicked stepsisters Grizella and Anastasia are played by two actors to create a comic, satirical, and caricatural effect of the mean, un-feminine, and musically untalented sisters. Their portrayal contrasts with Ella's sensitivity and gentleness.
Her dream is to make her voice heard, to be a complete artist: to sing, dance, and be like the heroines of the childhood stories her mother read to her when she was little. Ella is not just a simple character dreaming of being a princess but wishes to develop and express her artistic talent in its entirety, including singing and dancing. The place where Ella feels most at home is a virgin, atypical, intriguing: the attic. There, along with her childhood toys (Mousey, Gus Gus, and Coco Cheese, her friends, and the attic birds), she often re-reads her childhood stories and puts on a show. Whenever she needs to be alone with her dream, she goes to this place, which is a portal to the past, to the beginning of beginnings, where Ella often performs and tells her mother about each progress, each desire, and what she has achieved towards her dream. Singing is for her a solace, a motivating force, a way to overcome life's obstacles with optimism, a promise made to her mother to make her talent known. For Ella, the story of Cinderella is not just about finding love or a prince. It is about finding her voice, following her passion, and believing that anything is possible when you have the courage to believe in your dreams.
"Cinderella" is a production of the Ambassadorial Musical Theatre, the only theatre for children and youth under the Ministry of Culture, which this year celebrates its 5th anniversary.
