Feel the energy, passion, and drama of Carl Orff's masterpiece.
The protagonists of the event in Bacău are soprano Laura Iftimie, baritone Daniel Pop, and tenor Marius Turtoi, an exceptional cast, remarkable for the individual vocal attributes of the performers, along with the contribution of the Orchestra and Choir of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre "Oleg Danovski" under the baton of maestro Tiberiu Oprea.
The central idea of the vocal-symphonic work Carmina Burana is that above all people stands Destiny, embodied by the goddess Fortuna. She directs the course of existence, raises, and lowers fates, from which comes the vivid metaphor of the wheel, which spins unceasingly. Another scenic metaphor is that of the knight conquering a fortress, actually conquering the beloved woman, only to ultimately bow to her, the woman being the sovereign and the man her vassal. Finally, another scenic metaphor is that of the constant rebirth of life in nature, of the spring that always returns, and the love that continuously arises.
The celebrated history of the scenic cantata Carmina Burana begins with the discovery of this work with medieval texts by composer Carl Orff in a second-hand book catalog. From its first performance (June 8, 1837, Frankfurt am Main) to the present, Carmina Burana has enjoyed unprecedented fame. The explanation lies in the communicative power of the score and the extremely powerful and pleasantly obsessive effect of its most well-known passages.
