THE FIRST ROMANIAN FILM ABOUT GEORGE ENESCU'S LIFE, "ENESCU, SKINNED ALIVE", AWARDED IN VENICE
Toma Enache, the director of the film „ENESCU, Skinned Alive”, was recently awarded the „Premio Cultura” during a cultural event held in Venice. The film will be released in Romania in November, with over 30 gala premieres planned in cities across the country.
The director attended the cultural event „Leoni, Gattopardi di Sicilia” organized at Palazzo Donà dalle Rose. This project was created and directed by Nino Graziano Luca, in collaboration with Countess Chiara Modica Donà dalle Rose, under the patronage of the Culture Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and the UNESCO International Dance Council.
„I am honored to receive the Cultura Award, an award given in an emblematic place - Venice. I share this recognition with master Stefano Nicolao, the costume designer for our film. I thank Ms. Gabriela Dancău, the Romanian ambassador in Italy, the President of the Culture Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Mr. Federico Mollicone, and the event organizer, Nino Graziano Luca, along with the Donà dalle Rose family,” said director Toma Enache. Toma Enache was present at the award ceremony along with the film's two executive producers, Marta Maria Mocanu and Elena Enache.
Release in Romania
The Romanian audience will have the opportunity to watch this long-awaited film in a premiere starting in November. „Enescu, Skinned Alive” will be launched at over 30 gala screenings across the country, starting on November 2 in Iași, November 4 in Bucharest, November 5 in Ploiesti, and November 6 in Constanta. The complete schedule with the date and location of each premiere is posted on the film’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
Director Toma Enache emphasizes: „This film aims to highlight not only George Enescu's genius as a composer but also his human side. I hope that through this production, we can bring the audience closer to Enescu's soul and make him loved as he deserves. Beyond the genius composer, there is the human Enescu, whom the audience can discover in this film. I hope that our film will help tame some of our peers, something Enescu aimed to do through his music. Perhaps not just to tame them, but also to make them love him as he deserves.”
The Cast and Gala Screenings
The film features a remarkable cast, with Mircea Dragoman as George Enescu and Theodora Sandu as Princess Maruca, alongside well-known actors such as Cezara Dafinescu, Manuela Hărăbor, Adrian Titieni, Cristian Sofron, Kira Hagi, Pavel Ulici, Filip Ristovski, Erica Moldovan, Codrin Dănilă and the late Constantin Codrescu. Costumes are designed by Italian Stefano Nicolao, famed for his work on Oscar-winning productions, and the music includes works by George Enescu and original compositions by Sebastian Androne-Nakanishi, named „Composer of the Year 2022” at the International Classical Music Awards.
The soundtrack is performed by the National Orchestra of France, conducted by Maestro Cristian Măcelaru, artistic director of the George Enescu Festival, and the Romanian National Radio Orchestra, led by Maestro Horia Andreescu. Additionally, violinist Alexandru Tomescu adds a distinctive touch to this sonic production. The soundtrack also includes an original musical fragment performed by George Enescu on violin and Dinu Lipatti on piano.
Tickets and Information
The film „Enescu, Skinned Alive” will be presented exclusively at gala premieres, in the presence of the director and some team members, offering the audience a unique cinematic experience.
The film will only be shown this year at gala premieres across the country.
