"The Bat" (in German, "Die Fledermaus") is an operetta in three acts by Johann Strauss – the son (October 25, 1825 – June 3, 1899), with a libretto by Karl Haffner and Richard Genée after the vaudeville "Le Réveillon" written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. It premiered in Vienna at the "Theater an der Wien" on April 5, 1874.
Doctor Falke, a friend of Mr. Eisenstein, plots a prank to get revenge on him for an old story: after a masquerade ball, Eisenstein left Falke drunk in a public garden, dressed in a bat costume, to the mockery of the crowd, which earned Falke the nickname "The Bat".

The National Operetta and Musical Theater "Ion Dacian" was established in 1950 under the name State Operetta Theater. The theater is named after the famous tenor Ion Dacian, whose lengthy career is associated with the Golden Age of Romanian Operetta.
From its beginnings, the Operetta has enjoyed a warm reception from the Romanian public, with the genre experiencing remarkable popularity especially during the 1970s-1980s.
In the new millennium, the theater has gone through a period of renewal and modernization. The changes were mainly focused on enhancing the quality of productions artistically and technically, attracting new audience categories (especially young audiences), and developing a new image for the Operetta that illustrates both its rich tradition and new future projects, aiming to transform the theater into an important cultural center of the Capital.
The current repertoire of the National Operetta and Musical Theater "Ion Dacian" includes musicals, operettas, concerts, gala events, as well as seasonal shows.
