The Circus Princess (original title in German: ”Die Zirkusprinzessin”) is an operetta in three acts composed by Emmerich Kálmán to a libretto written by Julius Brammer and Alfred Grünwald, whose premiere took place on March 26, 1926, at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.
The plot of the operetta revolves around the mysterious character "Mister X," whose true identity is unknown to anyone, always wearing a mask. In reality, he is Prince Fedja Palinski who has been banished and disinherited by his uncle because he fell in love with his uncle's future wife, the beautiful and young Parisian princess Fedora. After Fedora Palinska becomes a widow, she moves to Paris, and Prince Fedja Palinski enters the world of the circus, becoming the mysterious Mister X and also the main attraction of the shows.
After a plot with a happy ending, Mister X and Princess Fedora meet again and stay together. Part of these events takes place in the wonderful and colorful world of the circus.
