Summer Theater Bacău
Opera show subtitled in Romanian
The "Oleg Danovski" Opera and Ballet Theater is pleased to invite you on TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 2025, at 7:00 PM, to the Summer Theater Bacău, for a grand event that brings together on stage over 100 artists, stars of lyric art, choir, dancers, and instrumentalists.
Traviata (in Italian La Traviata) is an opera in three acts composed by Giuseppe Verdi on the Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. The opera is based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas fils, The Lady of the Camellias.
The premiere of the opera took place at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, on March 6, 1853. The first performance was a failure, mainly due to the mediocre performance. It was only at the performance on May 6, 1854, on the small stage of the San Benedetto theater, also in Venice, that the opera saw real success.
Traviata was inspired by Rose Alphonsine Plessis (1824-1846) (born in the village of Nonant, not far from the city of Bayeux in France), who ran away from home at the age of 13. Arriving in Paris without money, she began practicing prostitution. By the age of 18, she had already become known as one of the most expensive courtesans (which in Italian is called "traviata"). To avoid her family's pursuit, she changed her maiden name to Marie-Duplessis. During this period, she met the writer Alexandre Dumas fils (1824-1895), who fell in love with her and maintained a close romantic relationship. Their relationship continued even after her marriage until her premature death, due to tuberculosis, on February 3, 1846, at the age of only 22 years. Her coffin, covered with a multitude of camellias, her favorite flower, was placed in the Montmartre Cemetery. In 1848, Alexandre Dumas fils published the novel "The Lady of the Camellias", a strongly autobiographical novel, which later served as the source of inspiration for the libretto of Giuseppe Verdi's opera, La Traviata, with the only difference being that in the opera, the female character appears under the name "Violetta Valery".
The show in Bacău features a high-caliber cast with some of the most important lyric artists of the moment in the leading roles:
Renata Orsolya Vari (soprano) as Violetta Valery
Doru Iftene (tenor) as Alfredo Germont and
Daniel Pop (baritone) as Giorgio Germont.
Alongside them, the soloists, orchestra, and ballet of the National Theater "Oleg Danovski" will perform.
