"The Bat" (in German, "Die Fledermaus") is a three-act operetta by Johann Strauss II (October 25, 1825 – June 3, 1899), with a libretto by Karl Haffner and Richard Genée after the vaudeville "Le Réveillon" written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. The premiere took place in Vienna, at the "Theater an der Wien," on April 5, 1874.
Doctor Falke, a friend of Mr. Eisenstein, concocts a farce to take revenge on him for an earlier story: after a masked ball, Eisenstein left Falke drunk in a public garden, dressed in a bat costume, to the ridicule of the crowd, which is why Falke earned the nickname "The Bat."

About the National Operetta and Musical Theatre "Ion Dacian"
The National Operetta and Musical Theatre "Ion Dacian" was established in 1950 under the name of the State Operetta Theatre. The theatre bears the name of the famous tenor Ion Dacian, whose long career is associated with the Golden Age of Romanian operetta.
Since its beginnings, operetta has enjoyed a favorable reception from the audience in Romania, gaining particular popularity especially during the 1970s and 1980s.
In the new millennium, the theatre has undergone a period of renewal and modernization. The changes mainly targeted the enhancement of the artistic and technical quality of productions, attracting new categories of audiences (especially young audiences), and shaping a new image of operetta, which reflects both its rich tradition and new future projects aimed at transforming the theatre into an important cultural center of the capital.
The current repertoire of the National Operetta and Musical Theatre "Ion Dacian" includes musicals, operettas, concerts, gala events, and seasonal performances.
