Chazz Palminteri's play, a screenwriter, director, actor, and Italian-born producer, can be integrated into modern boulevard theater. It has been successfully performed in other hemispheres, and a film was made in which the author acted. It is humorously written with spectacular theatrical twists, witty dialogue, and well-constructed characters.
In the relationship of a wealthy couple – Maggie (Adelaida Zamfira) and Jack (Florin Busuioc) experiencing an impactful moment, analyzed with irony and psychological depth, a paid killer, Tony (Gheorghe Ifrim), intervenes, although it is unclear who hired him, and he also has psychological issues; the action and conflicts are cleverly and dramatically presented with comedic flair. The author proves to know how to write comedies with psychological motivations in relationships and subtle references to current reality.
We meet Gheorghe Ifrim again in a comedic role – Tony, played with the logical intention of showing that the dramatic experience of certain situations can explosively highlight the ironic, satirical purpose of writing. The excellent actor defines the character, a hired killer, possibly a mobster who has his personal issues and a psychologist as his assistant. Gheorghe Ifrim skillfully captures the character's emotions and his relationships with Maggie, resulting in refined, captivating humor, demonstrating once again his special capabilities for comedy.
Maggie, the woman bored by domestic life, but who brought the necessary funds for her husband's business, is suggestively characterized by Adelaida Zamfira. The actress develops Maggie's ambiguity, especially as she becomes an elegant lady expressing her desire for adventure and revenge. It is a defining role that accomplishes a credible portrayal of the character for this talented independent actress.
A pleasant surprise is brought by Florin Busuioc's appearance in the theater. The actor adapts to define the essence of the profile and attitudes of Maggie's unfaithful husband, a businessman. Florin Busuioc convincingly conveys the warning that immorality can be specific, natural, and common among the wealthy. The three of them are wonderful in the way they narrate dramatic situations with interior sincerity, producing the comedic purpose of the satire of the text and humor applauded by the audience.
"Fidelity" is a show from which no one can leave disappointed. From the director and set designer to the three exceptional performers, "Fidelity" shows us that independent theater consistently engages culturally, without derisory sophisticated imagery, being directly in communication with the humor of some "photographs" detached from the reality of our days.
