National Theatre Bucharest - Ion Caramitru Hall
The text is a delightful comedy in three acts, written in 1932 and staged the same year at the Maria Ventura Theatre, where it was first produced at Bulandra in 1957 by director N. Al. Toscani. Over six decades after Toscani's staging, Horațiu Mălăele brings back to the Bulandra Theatre the three human typologies, embodying the Jew Ianke and casting Răzvan Vasilescu as the Turk Cadâr and Mihai Constantin as the Romanian Take.
Alongside the three main performers, the cast will also include: Dana Dogaru, Adrian Ciobanu, Maria Veronica Vărlan, and Matei Constantin. The scenography of the performance has been entrusted to Maria Miu.
The play brings to the forefront the life story of the three merchant friends, subtly addressing issues of race, faith and religion, individual and group identity status, reminding us that differences are not necessarily a cause for dissent. But also that good understanding can operate on the basis of accepting and embracing what defines us and differentiates us from others.
