Directed by Alina Hiristea, based on a screenplay by Radu Aldulescu, the show offers an electrifying theatrical experience, on the border between poetry and life, between lucidity and delirium, between humor and tragedy.
Bukowski by Night is not just a show – it is a direct confrontation with artistic genius, with humanity, with its vices and frailties, an invitation to look at Bukowski with the eyes of the heart.
An authentic Bukowskian universe
Bukowski by Night is a nonconformist, trenchant, and brutally honest show that explores the rebellious spirit and acute emotional sensitivity of the American writer. The audience is invited into a carousel of feelings and confrontations, where Art Legend (played by Karl Baker) struggles between love, addictions, artistic inspiration, the need for survival, and especially freedom. Gloria (Gabriela Porumbacu) – a total artist, eccentric and disturbing – and Alice (Delia Lazăr) – the bandage-woman, the perpetual friend and savior – complete an intense trio, with dramatic and tragicomic dynamics, in which art becomes both a curse and salvation.
Theater critics have described the show as:
• "An authentic Bukowskian show, nonconformist, trenchant, brutally honest" (Edith Negulici, Ars Poetica, Zile și nopți)
• "A captivating theatrical surprise" (Emilia Toma, Liternautica)
• "The American writer should be known much better for his special relationship with writing, with Poetry. Bukowski is just an example, but one to be highlighted." (Ana Andrei, SpectActor)
