Acidic, ironic, biting, the social and political satire written by one of the most well-known Romanian authors from the interwar period proves to be surprisingly relevant today, 100 years since its first staging – THE ENVELOPE by Liviu Rebreanu builds a universe where romantic intrigues, political skirmishes, the struggle for power, and people with lights and shadows bring to life a provincial community. In this small town with a big train station, where rivalries are commonplace and plots abound, Mayor Arzăreanu knows the rules of the game best, using any ruse to win a new term, even if it means sometimes exploiting those close to him to achieve his goals.
