The play by Chazz Palminteri, a screenwriter, director, actor, and producer of Italian descent, can be integrated into modern boulevard theater. It has been successfully performed in other parts of the world, and a film was made in which the author acted; it is humorously written with situations featuring spectacular theatrical punches, witty dialogues, and well-constructed characters.
In the relationship of a wealthy couple – Maggie (Adelaida Zamfira) and Jack (Florin Busuioc), who find themselves in an impact, with an irony analyzed psychologically, a hitman, Tony (Gheorghe Ifrim), intervenes, whose employer remains unknown and who also has psychological issues; the action and conflicts are skillfully presented dramatically with comedic flavor. The author proves to know how to write comedies with psychological motivation in relationships and subtle references to current events.
We meet again Gheorghe Ifrim in a comedic role – Tony, portrayed with the logical intention of showing that the dramatic experience of certain situations can explosively highlight the ironic, satirical purpose of writing. The excellent actor defines the character, a hitman, a possible mobster who has his personal problems and a psychologist as his assistant. Gheorghe Ifrim skillfully expresses the character's states and relationships with Maggie, resulting in refined, captivating humor, demonstrating once again his special abilities for comedy.
Maggie, the woman bored with domestic life but who has provided the necessary funding for her husband's businesses is suggestively characterized by Adelaida Zamfira. The actress develops Maggie's ambiguity, especially when she becomes an elegant lady asserting her desire for adventure and revenge. This is a reference role, accomplished with credible realization of the character for this talented independent actress.
A pleasant surprise comes from the appearance of Florin Busuioc in the theater. The actor adapts to the nuances for defining the essence of the profile and attitudes of Maggie's unfaithful husband, a businessman. Florin Busuioc credibly conveys the warning that immorality can be specific, natural, and present in many wealthy people. The three are wonderful in how they recount dramatic situations with inner sincerity, producing the comic aim of the satirical text and the humor applauded by the audience.
“Fidelity" is a performance from which no one can leave disappointed. From the director to the set designer to the three exceptional performers, “Fidelity" shows us that independent theater consistently engages culturally, without ridiculous superficialities of image, being directly in communication with the humor of some “photographs" taken from the realities of our days.
