The text is a delightful comedy in three acts, written in 1932 and staged in the same year at the Maria Ventura Theater, where it was first mounted at Bulandra in 1957 by director N. Al. Toscani. More than six decades after Toscani's production, Horațiu Mălăele brings back to the stage of the Bulandra Theater the three human typologies, embodying the Jew Ianke and casting Răzvan Vasilescu and Mihai Constantin in the roles of the Turk Cadăr and the Romanian Take.
Alongside the three main interpreters, the cast will also include: Dana Dogaru, Adrian Ciobanu, Maria Veronica Vârlan, and Matei Constantin. The scenography of the performance has been entrusted to Maria Miu.
The play brings to the forefront the life story of three merchant friends, subtly addressing the issues of race, faith and religion, individual and group identity status, thus reminding us that differences are not necessarily a reason for dissent. But it also points out that good understanding can function on the basis of acceptance and assuming what defines and differentiates us from others.
