Pianist Sorin Zlat invites you to a musical celebration on the stage of the Godot theater where he will celebrate his 40th birthday with musicians and friends!
Sorin Zlat, pianist, clarinetist and composer, has over 20 national and international awards and is one of the most representative jazz pianists of the new generation of Romanian artists.
Among Zlat's most remarkable successes are the Grand Prize at the Europa Fest Jazz Competition 2011, the Award for Best Band and Best Soloist at the Jazz Competition in Spain, Getxo
2011, and the Award for Best Band at the "Johnny Răducanu" International Jazz Competition in 2013. In 2013, at the International Jazz Competition in Monaco, he obtained both the Grand Prize and the Audience Award.
One of the highest points of his career was reached in 2015, when he represented Romania at the International Jazz Competition in Jacksonville, Florida. In this competition, where only 5 finalists were selected from over 500 international applicants, Sorin Zlat won the Grand Prize, thus becoming the first non-American pianist to obtain this trophy in over 30 years of the competition's history. The recognition of his talent continued, being named Musician of the Year at the Bucharest Jazz Gala for two consecutive years, 2014 and 2015, and receiving the Jazz Award from the Union of Composers and Musicologists in Romania in 2017. In 2019, he was honored with the title of Honorary Citizen of the city of Bacău, and in 2020,
the Yamaha company recognized him by awarding him the "Yamaha Artist" distinction.
Outside of his concert career, Sorin Zlat has also dedicated himself to music education, organizing workshops for students and big bands from various jazz universities in the U.S.A.. Exploring other genres, in 2023, he obtained a full scholarship at the Royal College of Music in London, in the Film Music Composition section, thus marking a new
stage in his career.
He has collaborated with renowned jazz artists such as Howard Levy, Ashley Pezzotti, Rick Margitza, Gianluca Renzi, Gianni Gagliardi, Woody Witt, Dennis Marks, and has worked with Romanian musicians such as Cătălin Milea, Alex Man, Luiza Zan, Nadia Trohin, Irina Sârbu, George Dumitriu, Iulian Nicolau, Răzvan Cojanu, Adrian Flautistu, Laurențiu Ștefan, Michael Acker, the Radio Big Band, etc. In 2017, he was invited as a headliner to perform with his trio at the opening of jazz pianist Chick Corea's concert at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, USA. He has appeared on prestigious stages, including the Blue Note, Birdland and Smalls clubs in New York, Vortex, Pizza Express, Ronnie Scott's in London, Nardis Club in Istanbul, Jazz Cafe in Montreux, B-flat in Berlin, and has participated in important international festivals.
