The story of a separation in two acts of a completely unusual show that combines theater, ballet and opera – this is the shortest summary for The Beautiful Indifferent / The Human Voice. Jean Cocteau is the author of both plays, Poulenc transforming The Human Voice into an opera for soprano Denise Duval, and Edith Piaf being the protagonist of the premiere of the play The Beautiful Indifferent.
The National Operetta and Musical Theater presents both works united in a common dramaturgy and proposes to the public the virtuosity and artistic versatility of soprano Oana Șerban, who will perform both roles – a true reflection on love and relationships between people. Her partner is the ballet dancer Marian Chirazi, whose artistic personality and bodily expressiveness add a special dimension to his silent role, through movement and dance.
The two moments of the evening complement each other in a game of contrasts: the impenetrable silence of the man from The Beautiful Indifferent becomes the counterpoint of the intense musical discourse from The Human Voice. From the dry theatricality of a room divided into two strangers, to the intimacy of a telephone conversation that takes place before our eyes, the show follows the anatomy of the breakdown of a love, through two different but convergent stage languages.
The staging proposes a unifying visual aesthetic, with a minimalist decor and cinematic atmosphere, in which light, sound and gesture build a disturbing emotional space. In this economy of means, the intensity comes from within – from voice, gaze and presence – outlining a dense and emotional stage experience. Cast:
