VICTORIA AND HER HUSSAR

- Operetta in three acts -

The National Operetta and Musical Theater "Ion Dacian"

(Bd. Octavian Goga, no. 1)

May 31, 2025, 6:00 PM

“Victoria and Her Hussar,” an operetta in three acts by Paul Abraham, with a libretto by Alfred Grünwald and Fritz Löhner-Beda, tells the love story between the beautiful Victoria and the hussar Koltay. The performance highlights the dramas of World War I, with intrigues and romances, all set in the Art Deco style of the early 20th century.

The subject of the operetta and the romance between the two takes us, one after another, from the sunny landscape of Japan to the picturesque St. Petersburg, eventually arriving in a small town in Hungary. World War I and the years that followed put their love to the test.

Believing her lover was killed in the war, Victoria marries a distinguished American diplomat named John Cunlight. However, life brings Victoria face to face with Koltay, her first love…

“The audience will enjoy a beautiful show, both for the eyes and for the ears, with music by Paul Abraham, which gives the performance a different acoustic color. It is a balance between comedy, drama, dance, music, and theater, which will induce a state of well-being. Additionally, the play takes us through three different geographical areas, each with a different theme, visibly reflected in the sets, as well as in the music and in the relationships between the characters.” – Cătălin Voineag – the director of the performance.
