NATIONAL PREMIERE – MEDA TOPÎRCEANU brings back on stage, through her concert "With love, MT", the voice of the incomparable Romanian singer Maria Tănase, offering the audience the most famous songs of the beloved folk music performer. The national premiere will take place on January 20, 2026, at the Metropolitan Center for Education and Culture "Ioan I. Dalles" – DALLES HALL, Bucharest.
"We must be aware of the traditions that Romania has and their success. Maria Tănase, who sang in Paris, New York and Istanbul, was a world star in her time, climbing the biggest stages. She managed to combine tradition with elegance," declares Meda Topîrceanu, the great-granddaughter of the Romanian poet George Topîrceanu. "Maria Tănase is one of the living roots of the Romanian cultural heritage. We must remember her. My wish is to bring back on stage the perfume of Maria from another time who carved her dreams through a clean life and who built an incomparable treasure with her voice."
Meda Topîrceanu will be accompanied by the MT Quartet, created especially for this show. The entire concert, including the scenography, is conceived as a letter addressed to Maria Tănase.
"Meda Topîrceanu, with her charm and naturalness, will speak to the audience through song about the great Maria Tănase: the beginnings of her career, some lesser-known stories, the connection with Constantin Brâncuși, the love for Romania and its traditions, but also the tragic end," adds manager Thomas Emmerling. "Yes, this concert is a poetic love letter to Maria Tănase."
