The Circus Princess (original title in German: ”Die Zirkusprinzessin”) is an operetta in three acts composed by Emmerich Kálmán with a libretto written by Julius Brammer and Alfred Grünwald, whose premiere took place on March 26, 1926 at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.
The action of the operetta revolves around the mysterious character "Mister X", whose true identity nobody knows, always wearing a mask. In reality, he is Prince Fedja Palinski who has been banished and disinherited by his uncle for falling in love with his future wife, the beautiful and young Parisian princess Fedora. After Fedora Palinska became a widow, she went to Paris while Prince Fedja Palinski enters the world of the circus, becoming the mysterious Mister X and the main attraction of the shows.
